Colin Rooney

Head Football Coach

Coach Rooney enters his 20th season in high school football and his 9th as head coach at Providence Academy. Prior to Providence, he coached at Saint Thomas Academy and Edina High School, serving in multiple roles including offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and position coach for quarterbacks, wide receivers, and special teams. Since 2018, he has guided Lions Football to a 42–33 record, including three subdistrict championships, two undefeated regular seasons, multiple top-five end-of-season rankings, and recognition as Sub-District Coach of the Year and Minnesota Vikings High School Coach of the Week. Before coaching, Coach Rooney served as a Naval Aviator in the United States Navy and is a graduate of University of St. Thomas, where he played football and baseball. He and his wife, Abby, have two sons, J.J. (17) and Will (13).

Reed Boltman

Defensive Coordinator

Reed Boltmann is entering his third year as Defensive Coordinator at Providence Academy, bringing extensive experience from both high school and collegiate programs. He previously served as Head Football Coach at Edina High School and spent five years coaching at Augsburg University, along with time at Shakopee High School.

A graduate of Augsburg University, Boltmann was a two-sport athlete in football and baseball and was inducted into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. He holds a Master’s and Specialist Degree in Human Performance from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and brings a strong background in strength, conditioning, and athletic development to the program.

Kyle McAvoy

Offensive Line Coach

Coach McAvoy joined the Lions staff in 2025 and oversees offensive line development. He previously coached at Bethlehem Academy, where he served as Offensive Coordinator and offensive line coach for five years, helping lead multiple section championship appearances and developing several all-conference athletes. A former high school offensive and defensive lineman, McAvoy went on to play offensive line at the University of Minnesota.

Brandon Rudenick

Defensive and Special Teams Coach

(Rudy) is from Nicollet, MN and is a graduate of Nicollet High School and Augsburg University. Coach Rudy and his wife Jeanne have one daughter, Zoey and a golden retriever, Mac. Coach Rudy and family live in Maple Grove. Rudy serves as a defensive and special teams coach, working with the linebackers and special teams units. Rudy started coaching with the Lions in 2025 and has been coaching high school football since 2009.
